Mosquito Population to Increase After The Flood of 2011

Posted by Michelle Davis Degeyter

Once the flood waters overflow and then recede from the rivers and bayous in Acadiana, mosquito experts are expecting an explosion in population.

Anything that holds water has the capability to breed mosquitoes. Once flood waters finally start to move out, the mosquitoes will move in.  Because of the slow retreat of the flood waters, the amount of mosquitoes left behind will equal to about the aftermath of 6 hurricanes. Generally after a hurricane, the mosquitoes hang around for 3-4 weeks, but with The Flood of 2011, you can expect to see 3-4 months of mosquito infestations. And, of course, Mosquito Squad will be here to help!
